MBPAPA and the Arts Council for Monterey County

Call For Entry: "Big Blue Live - The Artist’s View"

You’re invited to participate in an extraordinary exhibition – showcasing the artist’s unique perspective on Monterey Bay and the wildlife that thrives here.

This call entry was a joint effort of your board and the Arts Council for Montery County. As noted in the call for entry -- if you have any questions you may call Klara Hickmanova at the Arts Council at 831-622-9060.

The exhibit has been expanded into two separate shows -- the original studio and/or plein air works exhibit and a new "plein air paint out" exhibit. When you apply through onlinejuriedshows.com you are automatically applying for both shows -- you do not need to participate in the plein air paint out -- but if you are accepted into the original show you may participate in the paint out. The Arts Council has added cash awards for plein air paintings entered into the new show -- $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place.

Background: This summer, the BBC and PBS are partnering to create an international television event celebrating the extraordinary rejuvenation of the once-endangered but now thriving ecosystems of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is the gathering place for extraordinary ocean wildlife -from blue and humpback whales, to sea lions, elephant seals, great white sharks, sea otters and a multitude of seabirds. The acclaimed Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Sanctuary are the local partners, hosts and home bases for the prime-time production.

The live television segments they produce as “Big Blue Live” will air over three nights on BBC across the UK and in the United States on PBS from Aug. 31 through Sept. 2.
